Thank you
I just want to extend a huge thank-you to all of you for reading, liking, sharing, and offering support for this project.
Though I’ve been in journalism for more than 20 years, my first love has always been fiction. While reporting on everything from the bond market to Britney Spears I stuck to the facts, of course, but always tried to weave fiction techniques into my non-fiction writing. I found myself frequently frustrated when a scene didn’t live up to its potential from a storytelling standpoint (if only that laid-off worker had looked longingly into the distance, imagining his life without work at the rifle-manufacturing factory, etc).
Though I took creative writing classes in college, I didn’t pursue fiction as a career because I felt like I needed a job with steady pay (HA HA HA, she thought journalism paid) and was intimidated.
Looking at all of this now, I’m kind of glad I waited so long to really delve into this kind of writing again, because I feel like I now have a more consistent voice and more to say.
My goal is to turn this into the kind of manuscript a literary agent will want to snap up. So that’s my next challenge. I’ll appreciate any tips, tricks, and good energy you want to send my way.
And, as always, please feel free to share the completed project with your friends and enemies. They can find the entire archive here: https://fitfams.substack.com/archive?utm_source=menu-dropdown
Thanks so much.
